Ah, Whitman. This was quite well done, the poem and the photos.

I’ve just re-read Annie Dillard’s “Pilgrim at Tinker Creek,” and all that naturalism underscores what Whitman wrote from a poet’s perspective, “I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey work of the stars…”

URD: Yes, I recommend it, though it’s much less substantial than American Gods, for example. More like a beautiful but light story. A fairy tale, really.

I enjoyed reading Whitman with these gorgeous pictures. In fact, I think I should just go to bed now and have sweet dreams with these thoughts and images in my head. My family went hiking yesterday as well, although in a very different type of landscape.

Beautiful! Walt Whitman was a constant companion to my travels when I was 18/19 yo and always timeless. It is nice to see the wonders of nature through the eyes of a child. There was a glen I used to walk in when Amelia was younger and there were special places where I would stop and tell stories to Amelia. “Mermaid Cove, Fairy Glenn, Crying Indian Rock, Gnome Caves, Singing Falls…” She made the names of the places and I would tell their story. I was just thinking about this the other day and the photos of your children reminded me of this again
